Why Sigma Chi?

Sigma Chi is a brotherhood with roots in the collegiate experience that engenders a lifelong commitment to strive to achieve true friendship, equal justice and the fulfillment of learning as part of our overall responsibilities to the broader communities in which we live. The Iota Lambda Chapter of Sigma Chi excels in many areas including academics, brotherhood, intramural sports, service, and campus involvement. We strive to recruit men who will play an active role in helping our chapter and community improve even further while continuing to better themselves along the way.

“One of the many reasons I decided to join Greek life, let alone Sigma Chi, was that I wanted to explore my networking opportunities and have a sense of community on campus away from home, even though I'm from Louisville. The funny thing is that I really did not consider going Greek at all until the week right before Welcome Week my freshman year. As a minority growing up in a very strict household, I had many reservations about joining an organization that is predominantly white. I had the stereotypical view of fraternity life as just of bunch of entitled kids who drink too much and haze each other every weekend; however, I owe it to Peter Thai - an alumnus of our Chapter who graduated in 2018 - who enlightened me and convinced me otherwise.

An ideal that we largely pride ourselves on in Sigma Chi is "different temperaments, talents, and convictions." As someone who wanted to challenge myself academically, socially, and intellectually, I do not think there has been one greater organization on campus that has accomplished that more for me than any other. I can confidently say that the most impactful experiences I have had in college all relate back to Sigma Chi and continually motivate me to become the best version of myself. While college is largely and arguably a time to be selfish for the benefit of learning more about oneself, I'm beyond proud to associate myself with a group of gentlemen who I know to be the some of the most selfless people that I have the pleasure of calling my brothers.”

“I joined Greek life because I wanted to meet people and get out of my comfort zone. I didn’t know many individuals in Greek life, so I was super nervous walking up to a Sigma Chi rush event. However, I noticed right away that every conversation I had with someone was unique. Everyone had a different perspective of Greek life and the positive things it brought to them. After the first day of rush, I knew I wanted to be a Sigma Chi. After receiving my bid, I grew into the best version of myself. This fraternity gave me the courage to make new friends, hold a position in our executive committee, and participate in many intramural sports. Throughout my first year of college, I was faced with many adversities, but through it all, Sigma Chi greeted me with open arms. My fellow members never hesitated to help me when I was in need. Greek life here at UofL has given me some of my best friends and memories. I encourage you to go and find your best fit!”

“Going into my freshman year, I had two goals: to earn a high GPA and to make the most of every opportunity I was given. Little did I know that I could achieve both of these goals and go beyond by joining Greek Life. What drew me to Sigma Chi was meeting young men who were motivated, genuine yet all unique in their own ways. Joining Sigma Chi opened so many doors for me to become an involved student at the University of Louisville. From getting involved with the Louisville community to forming lifelong friendships, the Sigma Chi Fraternity has given me an immense amount of opportunities to get involved.  Not only do I feel like I’m improving as a student, philanthropist, and leader, I’m growing as a man.”
